Last year I started sharing videos on MKME Outdoors YouTube channel of my adventures in building an off-grid camper setup at my family bush property in Canada. I purchased the camper in May of 2021 in Bayfield Ontario
I pretty much grew up at this property and it has a truly unique ecosystem that I would like to learn more about. By learning more about the land I am hoping to create more projects to aid in sustainable living anywhere in the world.
I finished the basics of the camper build in 2021 with a basic battery and inverter install with monitoring and basic solar charging. I added a cellular booster (the site is remote) so I could work from here as well too.
I now have 3 new solar panels totaling 1KW of output to install and 2 new batteries for our energy storage.
The new AGM batteries alone should give me 276 Ah of capacity. I will also add my original lead-acid units for additional capacity which will hopefully allow us enough storage that I will no longer need to recharge with a generator at all and the solar should fill up the bank and maintain it.
I have to bring in water which I often get from a local spring source and tastes amazing
The river has abundant life but seems to be struggling since my younger years. I would like to study this a bit more to learn where the reduction in certain species originated from (suspect agriculture runoff but I am not certain)
This summer I will do the remaining upgrades and hopefully learn a bit more about the land I have called home for so long. There are some pretty amazing insects I have never seen elsewhere in the world as this property is bordered by the largest wetland in Southern Ontario
Join me on the MKME Outdoors channel as I make videos and have some adventures learning a more sustainable way of living with the land instead of on it.
